Wimbledon – Heybridge 1 (1.65 @Bwin) 6/10

Wimbledon was one of the main title candidates at the beginning of the season and they started the season well, with two wins (2:0 at home against Ramsgate, 2:1 away at Wealdstone), but then came one awful series of results (0:1 defeat away at play-off candidates East Thurrock, 1:1 at home against mid-table Staines, 1:2 defeat at home against on/off Harrow outfit that shocked Billericay in the last round too, 0:1 defeat away at play-off candidates Boreham Wood and, finally, 2:2 away at struggling Leyton). The mighty Dons (they attract the biggest crowd by far in the Ryman Premier, their average is around 3000) are currently 15th but, believe me, that can't last much longer. In the 1st FA Cup qualifying round, Wimbledon finally managed to win a game – they won 6:2 at Cray Wanderers (they are promotion candidates in a league below) and that could be and probably was a turning point. Heybridge Swifts are the ideal opponent at this moment. Wimbledon's midfielder Beckford scored four goals in last two matches and Wimbledon's manager brought in another quality striker too – Grazioli came on loan from Barnet but he isn't allowed to play in the FA Cup so this is a chance for him to show what he knows.

Heybridge Swifts are one of the relegation candidates and they surely play that way too. They are currently 21st with four draws and three defeats. Away from home they're really bad (2:2 at new boys Harlow, 0:2 defeat at mid-table Staines, 2:3 defeat at relagation candidates Ashford) and in the last round they were playing at home, against mid-table Folkestone, and lost 0:1. In the 1st FA Cup qualifying round, they played at home against their rivals from the bottom of the Ryman Premier table (Leyton, currently 20th – also in the relegation zone) and managed to win 4:3. But they had a 3:0 lead and conceded three goals and then somehow managed to score a winner in 89th minute (so it wasn't easy). I just can't see them doing much away at Wimbledon. All bad runs must end someday if the team (or, khm khm, a tipster) is good.

Margate – Hendon 1 (2.50 @Stanleybet) 5/10

Another very interesting match from the Ryman Premier. Margate are currently 10th, but they're definately play-off candidates (they finished the last season on the unlucky 6th place) and they're traditionally very strong at home – this season their home form is 2-1-0 (1:1 against maybe the biggest title favourites Chelmsford, 2:0 against play-off candidates Horsham and, finally, 3:1 against relegation candidates Tonbridge). In the 1st FA Cup qualifying round they were playing away at Chatham (league below) and comfortably won 3:0.

Hendon's manager is surprisingly realistic and he's still saying that his main goal this season is to avoid relegation. He knows that Hendon doesn't have a chance for automatic promotion (they have one of the lowest budgets in this league) – even a play-off spot will be hard to get at the end of the season. Yes, they did have a great run (they were bottom of the table this time last season and finished the season on 14th place) and they are currently top of the table but they also had easier opponents than all the pre-season favourites and Margate is their first true challenge. If you ask me, I expect a handicap home win and I'm pretty sure that this match can't end 0:5 (if it does, well, I'll bite my tongue and lose another 7 units).

Hendon's away form this season is 1-1-1 (0:0 at struggling Heybridge, 2:1 win at on/off relegation candidates Harrow and, finally, 2:3 defeat at East Thurrock who is currently 6th but I don't think they can make it to the play-off). They've won all their home matches but their opponents were 20th Leyton, 19th Tonbridge, 12th Hornchurch and 22th, bottom of the table Maidstone. Hendon almost lost in the FA Cup 1st qualifying round already. They played at home against Aveley, mid-table outfit from the league below. The match ended 1:1 ('It looked as if the team was suffering a reaction to the effort of the first seven games', said Hendon's manager) and Hendon had to play another match against Aveley a couple of days ago, this time away. Hendon was even losing 0:2 but managed to win in the end (3:2). I don't think they have the strength to do much at Margate. With this kind of odds on Margate home win, this is the best bet of the weekend.

Last season Margate managed to beat Hendon 4:1 at home and season before that it was 4:2 to Margate. And if you're still not convinced that this is a school example of a value bet, this is what Hendon's manager recently said:

'Promotion? No way! Listen, we've had a great start but there are too many excellent teams in this league realistically. If it was seven games remaining instead of seven games in, then we may stand a chance.'

Of course, you can also risk two units on a draw, just in case.

Cheshunt - Team Bath 2 (3.40 @StanJames) 3/10

And now something for those of you who are quick and lucky (if you see this on time). StanJames made a little mistake - Cheshunt will be without three suspended players and some of their players are injured and Team Bath is again one of the promotion candidates. Cheshunt is bottom of the table with 0-3-4 (0-3-2 at home) and Team Bath is currently 5th with 3-3-1 (1-1-0 away). I planned to bet on this match and this is a gift I had to recieve after all the bad luck lately. Bet365 gives us 1.73, Bwin gives us 1.90, Digibet gives us 1.80, Skybet 1.91, Sportingbet 1.95, but good old StanJames gives us 3.40 on an away win. Nice! :)

St Albans – Thurrock 1 (1.83 @StanJames) 6/10
(-1) St Albans – Thurrock 1 (3.00 @Digibet) 1/10

St Albans had a terrible start of the season in Conference South. In first six rounds, they were defeated four times and managed to pick up two points only. But then something changed – a couple of new players arrived, some players got released, remaining players got to know each other a little bit more (St Albans is a completely different team than last season) and St Albans finally started playing some football and scoring some goals. First they won away at promotion candidates Bishop's Stortford (4:3) and then managed to draw at home against biggest title favourites Lewes (1:1). Their goalkeeper Eyre was superb against Lewes and some richer clubs are already trying to take him away but, at least for now, he's staying put. St Albans' manager brought in a couple of players on loan before the Bishop's Stortford match and that obviously made quite a difference. Excellent defender Batt came from Stevenage, midfielder Bolt came from Rushden and experienced midfielder Smith (played over 500 league matches) joined St Albans too. Striker Morgan scored two goals in last two games and Thurrock is the perfect oportunity for him to score some more. Another standard striker Clarke hasn't scored whole season and he could brake his spell against Thurrock too.

Thurrock has been terrible from the beginning of this season (okay, they were pretty terrible last season too). They have six defeats, one draw (at home against not very good Basingstoke outfit) and one win (at home against struggling Welling). Last three matches were absolutely terrible for Thurrock – their goal-difference in those matches is 0:11. Havant beat them 3:0, mid-table Hampton beat them 5:0 (and that was Thurrock's home match) and, finally, Basingstoke beat them 3:0. They've lost a couple of players before the season started (for example their best striker Akurang), their most experienced summer signing (defender Cole) is out injured and winger Green who was at Thurrock on loan returned to Dagenham a week ago. Goalkeeper Gore (who also came this summer from Havant) and midfielder Norval left the club couple of days ago too. Their new goalkeeper came on a one-month loan from West Ham. That maybe sounds good but Blackmore is West Ham's under-18 goalkeeper. Today Thurrock's manager brought in a new central defender, Swaine from Billericay – that also sounds good, but Billericay is in a lower league than Thurrock and Swaine left because he was a reserve in Billericay's team. Thurrock scored six goals in eight league outings this season – their best scorer this season is Thomas with two goals and another scorer McKenzie scored once. Two out of that three goals scored by their strikers were scored against Welling.

Of course, if you're a very careful gambler, be sure to stake a couple of units on a draw because these are two teams that are both going to struggle this season and the weather forecast is not good (heavy showers), but the odds are simply too good not to take. Handicap win would be nice too.

Eastbourne – Welling 1 (1.73 @Coral) 6/10

Eastbourne is currently 2nd in the Conference South – Lewes is 1st only because of better goal-difference. Eastbourne is in great form – they have six wins and two home draws against promotion candidates Bishop's Stortford and Havant & Waterloovile. They have a 100% record in September – after two away wins (at Basingstoke and Bognor Regis), they won at home a couple of days ago too (2:0 against play-off candidates Braintree, a very strong outfit that played 0:0 away at title candidates Havant and Lewes). Eastbourne's scorers are in great form too – both Atkin and Ramsay scored five goals already this season.

Welling (currently 16th with 1-0-3 away from home, they won only in 3rd round at Hayes & Yeading who beat them in the reverse fixture this Saturday) didn't manage to pick up at least a point at home against Hayes & Yeading, so I can't see them doing much here. Welling is in a lot of problems, but I still thought they'll manage to win this Saturday. They didn't (it could've easily been worse than just 1:2 defeat) and anything but a strong, very probably a handicap Eastbourne win, would be a major surprise here. Very nice odds because IMO odds for a home win should be 1.40 max.

This is what Welling fans wrote after their last defeat:

''... On yesterday's performance I'd say we need 8 or 9 new players. Moore and Coleman are the only two who looked worthy of their places.
None of the rest would have got in last years side. Hayes and Yeading are a poor side with the exception of Perkins and one or two others and will probably struggle along with us and Thurrock. If we can't beat teams like that then we are in deep deep trouble...''

''... Why wasn't Keevill playing today? and why was Neil in the line up again? As for the game, I would like to say that we were crap, but we weren't that good. Coleman and Blackman our best players? Come on Spud, Coleman yes, but Blackman couldn't pass the tea around, let alone the ball..........and as for trying to head the thing, well, no way Pedro...''

''... Absolutley shocking today. Without doubt the worst performance of the season. It wasn't just the result- we were completley outplayed...''

''... I absolutely agree we stand no chance this season and need to act quickly to stop the rot...''

Hinckley – Kettering 2 (1.80 @Blue Square) 7/10

Hinckley is currently 20th on the Conference North league table with three defeats and five draws. At home they have 0-2-2 but the main reason I'm taking this bet is Hinckley's current roster. First they lost their key pre-season signing, striker Murphy, just before the season started, another striker Kelly is out suspended (he's serving a ten-match ban), midfielders Cartwright and Jackson and defender Penny are all out injured, and midfielder Lenton is still not 100% fit. Striker Stevenson (their best scorer this season with two goals) and midfielder Nurse left the club a couple of days ago. At home they were defeated by 10th Worcester (2:4) and 13th Solihull Moors (0:1), and managed to draw against 19th Blyth (1:1) and 5th Telford (1:1, that was arguably the worst Telford match this season). Yesterday (Saturday) they played away at bottom of the table Hucknall who didn't have a single point before the match and, surprise surprise, Hucknall was a better team in that match and Hinckley's midfielder Storer was sent off. The match ended 1:1.

This is what Hinckley's supporters are writing about their team:

''...Hard to take anything positive out of today’s game. A point’s not too bad, but the performance was below dire. Hucknall won't have an easier game all season. Sorry to say but the team’s playing without a clue... ''

Kettering are on top of the table with 7 wins and an away draw. Their only draw happened yesterday when they played 1:1 at Workington (currently 6th, one of the promotion candidates). But Workington is, of course, a much better team than Hinckley. Kettering won at 8th Stalybridge (1:0), 10th Worcester (3:2) and 21st Leigh RMI (4:1). They score a lot of goals, they brought in a bunch of experienced players in pre-season and shouldn't have much problem this time.

1.80 are great odds for away win but it's Monday and that's the reason this is just a 7/10 bet for me. If it was Saturday, I'd probably risk 8 units and if Kettering were playing at home, this would probably be my first 9/10 bet of the season. If you're afraid of losing 7 units (I'm not), be sure to have a 3/10 bet on the draw (between 3.50 and 3.75 on the internet). In that case, draw will get you 1.25 units more than you staked, but if Kettering wins (and they should), you'll get only 2.6 units more than you staked (7+3). I'll only be staking 7 units on a Kettering away win.

Hyde – Burscough OVER 2.5 (1.50 @Stanleybet) 7/10
Hyde – Burscough OVER 3.5 (2.88 @Blue Square) 2/10

Hyde is currently 4th and this season they will be serious play-off candidates. They score and conceed a lot of goals (19:10 in seven matches, 11:5 in just three home matches this season) – maybe some of you remember their 2nd round home match against Vauxhall. They were losing 0:3 at half-time and managed to win 6:3 in the end. In their next home match, they lost against on/off Tamworth (1:2) but in their last home match they scored four times (4:0 against Redditch). In the last round, they were playing away at Gainsborough – the match ended 3:3. So, yes, these odds must be taken. Hyde has a bunch of great strikers in their team – they managed to keep their best striker Seddon who scored 25 goals last season and brough in Simm who scored 13 goals for Leigh RMI last season.

Newly promoted Burscough outfit (currently 7th) scores and concedes a lot of goals too (12:11 in seven matches, 8:7 in three away matches this season). They've conceded four and scored two in the 1st round already (2:4 at Tamworth) and won 3:2 in their next away match at Nuneaton. In their last away match at Solihull they won 3:1 and in the last round they were playing at home against Hucknall and won 2:1. At home, they don't score and concede as much as away (4:4 in four home matches) but away their matches are always full of excitement and – goals.

Two last matches between these sides were full of goals too – it was 6:1 for Hyde (at Hyde) and 4:0 for Burscough (at Burscough).

Hyde will be without Cowan and Burscough will be without midfielder Price (both due to suspension), but that shouldn't make a difference here – both teams are without these players a couple of weeks already. Blue Sqaure offers terrific odds on OVER 3.5 option and Croatian local bookie Stanleybet offers 1.50 for OVER 2.5 – Pinnacle is offering 2.02 for OVER 2.75. Anything above 1.40 for OVER 2.5 is a value bet and if you ask me, the best bet of this weekend (there are no matches in Ryman, Unibond and Southern Premier leagues this weekend because of the FA Cup and even a small profit on these couple of bets would be great but it's maybe wise to take a vacation from these leagues this weekend and save some money for the forthcoming rounds).

FT 1:0

Welling – Hayes & Yeading 1 (1.91 @Skybet) 4/10

Welling finished the last season on 8th place but almost the whole first squad was released this summer and a bunch of new players arrived (new striker Coleman scored three goals so far). Bad start of the season was kinda expected, but after two defeats, Welling finally gained some points in rounds 3 & 4 (a win and a draw) and then later on won at home against mighty Bath City.

Newly merged Hayes & Yeading brought us profit with their defeats twice this season already. They are currently bottom of the table with three draws (all at home against fellow relegation candidates) and four defeats (three times away, once at home against – ha! – Welling) in first seven rounds and they're the biggest relegation candidates this season. In this match, Hayes will be without two suspended strikers, Palmer and Knight (another striker Scott is out injured) and their left-back Hislop left the club couple of days ago too. They also have problems with goalkeepers – their no1 Davies is out injured and Preddie was recently on goal for them. Palmer and Hislop were both in the starting team for Hayes when they hosted Welling in the 3rd round. That was Welling's first win (and a very much needed away win after two defeats) of the season and after that Weeling picked up 4 points at home (out of six) and lost two away matches. They've lost at Lewes in the last round but Lewes are one of the biggest, maybe even the biggest title candidates this season. They were far better at home against Bath City who are also big play-off candidates (1:0 for Welling).

After scoring three times in first four matches and then nothing in the last three matches, Welling's striker Coleman needs a goal against Hayes (he scored a winner when Welling was playing away at Hayes) to regain some confidence. Welling will be without striker Ward who left the club due to work commitments, but he didn't score a single goal this season (this time Blackman who was playing as a winger recently could be Coleman's partner in the attack if Welling's manager doesn't bring in a new striker by Saturday – Welling's fans are not happy with that but that could maybe motivate mr. Blackman). At least they'll have a quality keeper on goal – Masters from Brentford joined them two weeks ago on a one-month loan and has been very good. Welling will probably end this season mid-table and this could be a narrow 1:0 win again, but in this moment Welling is far better than Hayes & Yeading (who will also be without a lot of players) and these kind of odds lured me once again. But, this is just a 4/10 bet, not a 8/10 bet – be careful with this one and don't except odds below 1.80. Under is maybe a good option too, but 2:1 or 3:1 home win is also a very possible result here so I'll stick with the home win for 4/10...

FT 1:2

Maidenhead – Havant & Waterloovile 2 (2.20 @Blue Square, Skybet) 3/10

Havant & Waterloovile are, I'm repeating myself, one of the biggest title candidates this season. They are currently 4th with 4 wins, 2 draws and just one defeat (away at Cambridge in the 3rd round). They have a great new keeper in Scriven who saved them in the last round (1:0 home win against title candidates Bromley) and a couple of great strikers so these odds are definately worth a go. Havant will be without Howells due to suspension, but he has yet to start a match for Havant this season, he got sent off as a sub at home against Thurrock, so he won't be missed.

Maidenhead are better away then at home this season – they are currently 18th with three home defeats (0-0-3 at home), one away defeat, two away draws and a single win – away win of course (at struggling Sutton). They will be without Clarke due to suspension and will have to play the match of the season already if they want to steal all three points from high-flying Havant & Waterloovile. Maidenhead also has some injury problems and Havant is the most dangerous team they will have to play against in this part of the season (so far their opponents were fairly beatable), after returning to the Conference South as the Southern Premier League play-off winners. Maidenhead was apparently terrible in their last home match against struggling Bognor Regis (Maidenhead lost 2:1). 2.20? Sure I'll take it.

This is what Maidenhead's manager said about their opponents in this match:

''... I’m honest they were my tip for the league at the start of the season. They have got a terrific squad and I know they are going to give us our toughest test of the season. They had a great side last year and have added players like James Slabber and Richard Pacquette so we are going to have to be on our toes...''

North Ferriby – Gateshead 2 (1.91 @Stanleybet) 7/10

Gateshead is playing great football this season – their unbeaten run now stretches to 17 games (including last season's matches) and their goal-difference in this season is 20:6 (in just 5 matches/wins). Let's look at their results – 3:1 at Eastwood, 2:1 against Whitby, 4:0 at Worksop, 5:2 against Frickley and finally, in the last round, 6:2 at home against play-off candidates Hednesford. Bloody brilliant if you ask me. They were one of the title favourites even before the season started and now they're even bigger favourites – all the Unibond outfits that already played against them recently admit that Gateshead is a great team this season.

North Ferriby fans are still waiting for their team's first win of the season. They are 20th (out of 21 teams in the Unibond Premier this season) and their goal-difference is 6:17. At home they're far worse than away (they have 0-0-3 and 1:11 goal-difference at home and 0-3-1 and 5:6 goal difference away from home). They will also be without their best striker Gary Bradshaw due to suspension.

FT 1:4

Witton – Matlock 1 (1.80 @Stanleybet) 4/10

Witton is currently 2nd in the Unibond but this season they're going for the title big time. After missing out the title on goal difference last season and then losing in the play-off final against Telford, a couple of players left the club but a couple of quality players from higher leagues joined the team too (no injuries and no suspensions in Witton team). They have 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat and their goal-difference is 13:2 (3-0-0 at home with goal-difference 9:1). Witton's only defeat happened in the 1st round at play-off candidates Lincoln and the draw at mid-table Ossett happened in the last round. All of Witton's wins were very convincible handicap wins.

Matlock are currently 4th –they have 5 wins and just one defeat (goal-difference 12:6) but Witton are definately big favourites in this match and there is value in these odds. Matlock will be without striker Lawrence Hall due to suspension and they've lost two strikers already this season (Cahill and Holmes who left just a couple of days ago). Cropper is still out injured and Riley is stll not 100% fit too. Matlock did win at home against struggling North Ferriby in the last round but they weren't a better team and they surely missed Holmes in the attack. That's probably why almost all of Matlock fans predict a defeat in this match at high-flying Witton.

Chelmsford – Wealdstone 1 (1.57 @Stanleybet) 7/10

Here we have a great home team, title candidates Chelmsford (1:1 at play-off candidates Margate, 4:1 at home against Boreham Wood, 7:0 at home against Maidstone, 1:1 at title favourites Billericay, 0:1 at play-off candidates Hornchurch and finally 2:0 at home against top-of-table East Thurrock) who have a 100% home record so far and, on the other side, struggling Wealdstone (4:1 at relegation candidates Folkestone, 1:1 at home against on/off Wimbledon, 2:4 at home against Margate, 1:4 at relegation candidates Ashford, 3:3 at home against new guys Hastings and finally 1:0 at also on/off Staines outfit). The odds are a bit short of course, but the fair odds should be 1.40 max for the home win so I'll be taking this bet and expecting a strong home win. Chelmsford enjoyed a fine pre-season, brought in a couple of quality players from leagues above and the best players from last season stayed with the club. They have a lot of players for a Ryman Premier team and a big squad is very important at this level. Wealdstone has some problems with injuries and discipline and I think they will have to look for points elsewhere. Btw, Pinnacle is offering 1.83 for (-1), but I don't like those odds (the stake is refunded if Chelmsford wins by one goal only).

Havant & Waterloovile – Bromley 1 (2.20 @Stanleybet, Skybet, Bwin, Blue Square) 5/10
(-1) Havant & Waterloovile – Bromley 1 (4.22 @Stanleybet) 1/10

Havant & Waterloovile are probably the biggest title favourites in Conference South this season. At home they're almost unbeatable (just two home defeats last season). They already brought me some profit this season a couple of times and the league's best scorer from last season, legendary Rocky Baptiste, scored twice in the last round. Havant started the season with a tough home draw (0:0 against play-off candidates Braintree) and then won one and lost one away match (1:0 at Dorchester, 0:2 at Cambridge). After that, they came back home and played a great match against strugglers Hayes & Yeading (won 4:1). Eastbourne away fixture ended 2:2 and then in the last round Havant showed their strength once more, winning 3:0 against Thurrock at home (it could've easily been even a bigger win). Manager Baird brought in a couple of quality players over the summer and that's why their last season's second best striker Pacquette started from the beginning just once this season (Slabber came from Stevenage and Griffiths came from Fisher). No suspensions for Havant finally and 2.20 looks big for any Havant home match (and there are better teams then Bromley in Conference South).

Bromley were the play-off winners in Ryman Premier last season and made a nice start in Conference South. After picking up just two points in first three matches (1:1 at home against also newly promoted Bath City, 1:2 away defeat at Braintree, 2:2 away at struggling Sutton) they started winning (2:1 at home against Bognor Regis, 3:0 away at Fisher, 2:1 at home against Hayes & Yeading) but those were three easy matches compared to this away fixture at mighty Havant. Bromley manager Goldberg brough in a couple of good players over the summer, but a couple of important players left the club too (standard defender Sobers, standard midfielder Watts, their best scorer from last season Boot...). I think Bromley has some kind of a chance for a play-off spot this season, but Havant, on the other hand, must win their home games against play-off candidates. I wouldn't take this bet if odds were below 1.90 but 2.20 is another story. Bromley did manage to win against struggling Hayes & Yeading in the last round, but their defending was shaky & nervous and they scored both goals in the second half. I must also take a handicap win for a single unit because of the monster odds.

FT 1:0

Hendon – Maidstone 1 (1.62 @Skybet) 5/10

Hendon was in the lower half of the table last season but this season they are apparently playing another kind of football because they're currently league leaders. Now who would have guessed that in pre-season period or after the 1st round (0:0 draw away at Heybridge)? Not many. In the 2nd round they've beat Leyton at home (2:1) and then just kept on winning (3:2 at home against Tonbridge, 2:1 away at Harrow). East Thurrock (away) managed to beat them 3:2, but then in the last round Hendon did a great job at home against play-off candidates Hornchurch, beating them 3:1 (forwards Haule and O'Sullivan are btw scoring regularly, O'Sullivan scored five time already). After Maidstone, Hendon will be playing against much tougher outfits and that's why they simply have to win this time (Margate and Ramsgate are a lot better teams than Maidstone, Leyton, Tonbridge and Harrow – Hendon's only true accomplishment so far is a 3:1 home win against Hornchurch) if they want to stay on top of the league for a bit longer.

Maidstone are the last season's Ryman One South League champions and this is their first season in Ryman Premier League. They didn't quite start their Premier campaign as they would have like it – they're bottom of the table with five defeats (their goal difference in that five matches is 0:18) and a 3:0 home win against Carshalton. First they've lost at home against Horsham (0:2), then away at new guys Hastings (0:4), then away at Chelmsford (0:7), then came that single win against relegation candidates Carshalton, but after that Maidstone again lost at home against Staines (0:1) and finally away at Ramsgate (0:4). Maidstone will be without midfielder Tydeman and defender McNish, both due to suspension (and also without striker Wilkins, a local football legend who left the club the day before yesterday – their manager brought in a replacement from Chatham yesterday but he's more of a midfielder than a scorer) and anything but a home win would be one of the biggest surprises in Ryman Premier this season (maybe even the biggest because Wimbledon defeats keep on happening and don't surprise that much anymore). In the next two rounds Maidstone will get a fair chance to pick up some points (they're playing at home against Tonbridge and Boreham Wood) but I don't think they could pull a major surprise away from home, at top-of-the-table Hendon, without a couple of standard players (they have some injury problems too). Maidstone supporters agree with me (''First six games took place over 18 days. I would guess that this hasn't left much time for training between games, which is where things can be sorted out. After the Hendon game there is a weeks breathing space before the FAC, which is maybe what is needed by the coaches...'').

This is what Maidstone's supporters wrote after their last defeat:

''A very poor performance tonight. Poor discipline, completely devoid of ideas, tactically non existant, basic errors again. Dare I say it??? Maybe time for a change...''

''Enough is enough now, its time we woke up to the fact the side is poor and needs changing the players that weve signed pre season are nowheres near the standard our defence is shaky to say the least and our forward line up probably even worse but the lack of discipline even worse still...''

''We were toothless, spineless and had no discipline. I think we need a new centre back and a striker...''

''In all honesty, I don't think that the players are that bad although we desperately desperately need a decent striker. We lost tonight because of poor discipline and basic errors which need to be seriously looked at...''

''Its bad enough losing but when you don't even compete........thats bad!!!!...''

FT 2:1

Kettering – Boston OVER 2.5 (1.83 @Pinnacle) 5/10
Kettering – Boston OVER 3.5 (2.63 @Blue Square) 1/10

Kettering is kicking some serious ass in Conference North this season (they finished the last season 2nd but failed to promote to Conference National via play-off). They have 6-0-0 (they're the only Conference North outfit with a 100% record so far), a goal-difference 19:6 and they are coming back home after a great away result at Leigh RMI (4:1 away win, brought us some profit, thank you very much). All of their games were OVERs except the first match of the season (1:0 away win at Stalybridge). Results after that 1st round look like this – 3:2 at home against Hucknall, 6:0 at home against Vauxhall, 3:2 away at Worcester, 2:1 at home against Tamworth and finally 4:1 away at Leigh RMI. In their three home matches they have a 11:3 goal-difference. Kettering had an August from a fairytale, they won all of their eight matches, including three friendly games (including their 1:0 home win against almost full-strength MK Dons). Another important fact – everybody scores for Kettering, not just strikers Rawle, Westcarr, Marna, Burton and Malcom, but also midfielder and captain Solkhon (scored a winning goal in the 1st round), experienced midfielder Brady (summer signing), defender Dempster (scored three goals already), midfielder Bridges (summer signing), winger Hall... No suspensions, one or two players are still not 100% fit but Kettering has a big squad so it's not a problem...

Boston didn't have a fairytale-like beginning of the season after being demoted two divisions down. They're mid-table now and they could easily end this season mid-table too. Their results are average (2:0 at home against Workington, 2:3 away at Harrogate, 1:1 away at Telford, 1:1 at home against Hinckley, 1:2 away at Alfreton, 2:1 at home against Barrow) but except for the 1st round, Boston scored and conceded in every match. I expect a lot of goals and Kettering should have enough motive against yesterday's league 2 club. Boston manager Taylor assembled the squad for this season in very short time and they have to start playing some football soon if they want a play-off spot. I don't know, the odds for a home win are a bit short because sooner or later Kettering will lose a point or three and that's why I'll be taking this OVERs instead of a normal or a handicap home win. Nevertheless, I expect a result 3:1, 3:2, 4:1, something like that...

Bath City – Newport UNDER 2.5 (2.05 @Pinnacle) 7/10
Bath City – Newport 1:0 FT (8.00 @Blue Square) 1/10
Bath City – Newport 0:0 FT (11.00 @Blue Square) 1/10

I think this is my first UNDER bet in these leagues ever, but statistics say it all and I have to take at least a 7/10 bet because the odds seem huge. If you look at Bath City's (1:1, 2:0, 2:0, 1:0, 1:0, 0:1) and Newport's (0:0, 1:1, 2:0, 0:1, 2:0, 0:1) results so far you can see it for yourself. To make it even clearer, Bath City played against a couple of teams that will surely end up near or in the relegation zone by the end of the season and failed to score more than once against them (1:0 at home against Maidenhead and Weston-super-Mare) and Newport has the same problem (1:1 at home against Maidenhead, 0:1 at Hampton).

Newport really has a big scoring problem - their forwards Hughes, O'Sullivan (attacking winger who is out for this match) and Griffin failed to score a single goal this season (only the striker Alsop scored one) and a lot of players came and left during the summer (their best scorer so far is midfielder Bowen). Bath City's strikers Gilroy and Walsh failed to score too, only Edwards scored twice (not in last two rounds though). Bath City's last season's top scorer Partridge is out untill at least October. Both managers are praising their defences, Bath's manager knows Newport County outfit 'inside out' and I wouldn't be surprised with a 0:0 FT result. Newport failed to score a single goal in their away fixtures this season and I don't think Bath can score more than once against a solid Newport defence.

Last time these two teams played a match was back in 2004 – Bath City were playing home and the result was 1:0 for Bath. Even if this match ends up 3:3, I won't be sorry for placing an under bet because I rarely see so much information going towards the same direction...

Gateshead – Frickley 1 (1.67 @StanJames, Paddy Power) 8/10

Gateshead manager Ian Bogie is now a proud owner of a 15 matches unbeaten run. Bravo! Gateshead started the season with a 3:1 away win at Eastwood and continued with a 2:1 home win against play-off candidates Whitby and a 4:0 away win at Worksop. They played just three matches so far (some teams already played six) and are one of three Unibond Premier outfits with a 100% record. This is my third 8/10 bet of the season because odds on a home win in this case should be 1.40 max in my opinion.

Frickley managed to pick up just two points in five of their league outings (0:3 away defeat at play-off candidates Hednesford, 2:2 at home against bottom-table North Ferriby, 1:1 at home against mid-table Marine, 0:3 away defeat at play-off candidates Whitby and finally 0:1 home defeat against play-off candidates Fleetwood). Couple of days from now they'll be playing away at Kendal and that's their chance for a point or three. I predict a strong win for the home side – btw, Pinnacle offers 1.88 for their (-0.75).

4.9.2007.

Fleetwood – Marine 1 (1.80 @Stanleybet) 5/10

Fleetwood is one of three Unibond Premier outfits with a 100% record so far (other two are Guiseley and Gateshead) and one of the favourites to win the league this season. They won in all four matches – started away at mid-table Ossett, then at home against big spenders and favorites Hednesford, away at Ashton and finally away at Frickley. Now they're home again and these odds look very good.

Marine managed to win just once in their five league outings this season (started with a 1:2 defeat at home against a team that will struggle this season – Worksop, then 1:3 away at promotion candidates Witton, 1:1 away at another struggling team of Frickley, 1:0 home win against mid-table Prescot Cables and a 0:1 defeat at home against mid-table Ossett). It's obvious now that Marine will fight for a mid-table position this season and in this match they will be without a standard midfielder Hussin due to suspension (they have some injury problems too).

FT 2:3

Buxton – Witton 2 (2.00 @Stanleybet, StanJames, Bwin, Gamebookers, Paddy Power) 4/10

New Unibond Premier guys Buxton started the season with picking up a point at mid-table Whitby in the first round, but then came two home defeats – against Hednesford (0:2, I expect a similar result here btw) and Kendal (0:1). A week ago, Buxton managed to win for the first time this season and it was again away from home, at another mid-table outfit, Ossett Town. Witton should be too much for the new guys in the league. Buxton will be without their best scorer Reed due to suspension and midfielder Doxey recently left to Conference North outfit Alfreton. Buxton's goal difference is 2:4 (in four games).

Witton is currently 2nd with four wins and just one defeat in five games (goal difference 11:2). Their manager brought in a couple of very good players and their newest signing, striker Rod Thornley who came from Conference National outfit Altricham, scored already in his debut (against Eastwood). Witton lost points in the 1st round only (0:1 away defeat at play-off candidates Lincoln) – after that came four wins (3:1 at home against Marine, 4:0 at home against Stamford, 2:0 away at Kendal, 2:0 at home against Eastwood). It's a shame bookies didnt' make even a bigger mistake and put up for example 2.30 for the away win because in that case I would even concider a 6/10 bet. With this kind of odds, I think it's best to keep a low profile here – 4/10 for me.

FT 0:2

Leyton – Horsham 2 (2.30 @Gamebookers) 4/10

Horsham comfortably sits on the 2nd place on the Ryman Premier table. It's a nice change – they finished the last season mid-table (they were 8th, far enough from the play-off zone). Horsham already brought me some profit this season, two weeks ago when they won at home against Folkestone – the odds were great for a home win then and they're pretty great again. Horsham is playing away this time, but 2.30 away at poor Leyton is just too much. Value indeed. Horsham's results so far are very nice too. 2:0 away win at Maidstone (I expect a similar result in this match), 1:0 home win against Folkestone, 3:2 home win against very tough Boreham Wood, 0:2 away defeat at strong Margate with basically no fit strikers in the team and finally, two days ago, 4:1 home win against not bad at all Carshalton outfit (they have one win and two draws in five games). Horsham is without two injured players, their talented scorer Farrell and midfielder Taylor, but scorer Rook is finaly fit (scored two goals against Carshalton) and their manager brought in another scorer couple of days ago, Austin from Maidstone so now Charman can come back in the midfield after playing upfront at Margate.

Leyton finished the last season 15th and they face another struggle this season. They are on the bottom of the table with just one point (gained in the first round) and 4:12 goal difference. They've picked up a point against new guys Harlow but after that, Hendon away, Ramsgate away, East Thurrock at home and Billericay away all managed to beat them. This Saturday they brought us some profit too with their heavy defeat at Billericay (0:4).

FT 4:3

Heybridge – Billericay 2 (2.38 @StanJames) 2/10

These odds for a Billericay win (anything above 2.10 really) must be taken. Heybridge just lost their captain and midfielder Shinn to Conference South outfit Braintree and failed to win in any of the first five games of the new season. They have two defeats (away at Staines and at not very good Ashford outfit in the last round) and three draws (at home against Hendon, away at Harlow and at home against Hornchurch) but I think Billericay is momentarily a better team than Hendon and Hornchurch and 2.38 looks very nice for a small-stake bet.

Billericay was great against teams that are, just like Heybridge, going to struggle this season (6:0 at home against new guys Hastings in the first round, 4:0 at home against Leyton in the last round) but also managed to snatch a 2:0 away win at promotin candidates Hornchurch. Billericay maybe lost talented winger Whelpdale during the summer, but they brought in Woods-Garness (and a couple more talented players), a great striker who scored a hat-trick against Leyton. The other Billericay striker Flack scored once in that match and is finally 100% fit. The absence of two injured players, midfielder Game and scorer Boot, won't make a difference, especially Boot's (Billericay's manager has four other strikers and this Flack + Wood-Garness combination works great). Billericay scored most goals (13) in five games and conceded the least (just one). All in all, Billericay should win here, even if their 1st goalkeeper doesn't make it (he got injured against Leyton) – he thinks he will btw – but even if their reserve keeper plays from the start and concedes a goal, Billericay strikers can easily score a couple of goals to get that very wanted three points.
